With plenty of palates to quench and plentiful competition, the exploration of new beer styles is nothing new. Before Prohibition, cream ales emerged as an ale version of popular American lagers to compete with brewers in the Northeast and mid-Atlantic states. The addition of flaked maize is also reminiscent of the widespread growth of corn in the Midwest.
